Launched a new platform named ICCES for Climate Knowledge and Action at Dhaka on the occasion of International Climate Action Day
October 26, observed globally as International Climate Action Day, was marked by the launch of the Institute of Climate Change, Environment, and Sustainability (ICCES).
Students, researchers, and national climate experts joined together to celebrate the theme “Youth Engagement for a Sustainable Future”, underscoring the crucial role of young people in addressing climate challenges.
Professor Ainun Nishat, Professor Emeritus at the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER), attended as the chief guest. His inspiring speech highlighted the urgency of strengthening adaptation, mitigation, climate finance, capacity building, technology transfer, transparency, and compliance efforts.
Notable speakers included AKM Sohail, UN Wing Chief at the Economic Relations Division; Dr. Anwar Zahid, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Water Modelling; Dr. Hasib M. Irfanullah, environmental researcher; Ratul Dev, Executive Director of GenLab and UNLEASH Sustainability Award winner; and Engr. Sheikh Tajul Islam Tuhin, Chairman of ICCES.
ICCES seeks to be a hub for research, policy discussions, and youth-led innovation focused on climate change and sustainability. The Institute plans to open its doors to new members who are passionate about climate and environmental research.
Membership will be offered in several categories, tailored to different skill levels and benefits. ICCES plans to create open student chapters at universities, building a nationwide network of young researchers dedicated to a sustainable future.
