The increased production of energy by rich countries will bring more destruction to our environment

The United Nations informed those wealthy countries’ plans to use fossil fuels to keep global temperatures safe.

According to the UN, Fifteen developed countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Russia, will extract more than double oil and gas by 2030. This extraction could disrupt the global target of keeping global warming to1.5°C.

The UNFCCC COP 26 climate conference will take place next week in Glasgow, Scotland. The conference will focus on reducing carbon emissions. Amid these, the report of UNEP was published.

The report claimed that oil and gas extraction would increase even if coal production declines slightly over the next decade. According to UNEP, the scenario described in the present report is quite similar to the first report published in 2019.

Researchers of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned earlier this year that a rise in global temperatures above 1.5 degrees Celsius could be dangerous for the world. For this, carbon emissions will have to be reduced by 45 percent by 2030 compared to 2010.

In this context, it is necessary to emphasize the reduction of carbon emissions. Still, the countries that emit more carbon are increasing the number of fossil fuels at a significant rate, the UN report stated.

According to the Production Gap report, 15 countries plan to produce about 110 percent more fossil fuels than before. Other countries on the list include Saudi Arabia and Australia.

Although the number of countries committed to reducing carbon emissions has increased, the significant oil, gas, and coal producer countries have no specific goals.

According to the study, even if they use of coal decreases, the use of gas will increase over the next 20 years, which conflicts with the Paris Agreement.
