Progress in the COP-27 conference is very little
The UN Climate Summit COP 27 has ended. However, more progress has yet to be made. Countries could not agree on an effective climate agreement or declaration at this conference. Therefore, climate experts have urged governments to take effective and collective initiatives quickly.
Efforts are underway to announce a framework to combat climate change beyond 2020. Countries have reached a consensus on only two of the 22 conditions.
Climate experts issued a statement calling for swift and effective collective efforts in this situation. They said that next month, the United Nations high-level biodiversity meeting would hold in Montreal, Canada. It is important to reach a final consensus in that meeting.
Former French foreign minister Laurent Fabius, former UN climate chief Christiana Figueres, and French climate envoy Laurence Tubiana have signed the statement. They all played an important role in drafting the Paris Climate Agreement in 2015.
Referring to the Paris Agreement, the statement said, “The world was united once in 2015. Now is the time to be one again. Take swift collective action to build a livable world before 2030.”
The statement to world leaders also said, “We cannot waste time, and again, bold leadership is needed now.”
Meanwhile, countries reiterated their previous commitments on climate change in the declaration of the G20 summit held in Bali, Indonesia.
It has pledged to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius and continue to provide aid to affected countries. However, climate analysts claim it is not enough. The world expects something more concrete from these countries.
In this regard, Dr. Henry Kokofu, negotiator on behalf of Ghana, said at the COP-27 conference, “We welcome the declaration of the G-20.”
However, these countries must step up their efforts to reduce carbon emissions by 2030 and do so before time runs out.
Abhinash Prasad, Special Envoy of Prime Minister of Barbados’ on Climate Finance, said at the COP-27 conference, “The G-20 leaders have failed to make a concrete announcement on climate finance.” They missed a big chance before time ran out.

Therefore, Lula’s participation in this year’s climate conference in Egypt has gained particular importance.
