Mymensingh (Bangladesh) fill with banned Polythene
Officially banned Polythene (One time used Polythene) is available everywhere in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Polythene finds in almost every marketplace and small and big shops in this District. Frequent use of Polythene is having a severe impact on human life. It is polluting the environment.
According to the agriculture office, Polythene is a non-biodegradable product. If it falls on agricultural land, the soil quality deteriorates, and Crop production disrupts.
The administration says regular monitoring has been done in all District’s markets and whether banned-declared Polythene findings action has been taken against the miscreants through mobile courts.
Dhobaura Upazila Sadar Bazar under Mymensingh district needs a designated place to dump the garbage. Heaps of used Polythene are visible inside the market and at different locations. This Polythene is being sold everywhere in the bazaars of the seven unions, including the raw and fish markets.
Buyers say that the shopkeeper is handing over one or two pieces of Polythene to the consumer with each product after purchasing the product in any shop.
Traders are selling banned Polythene in public without any regard for the law. However, the traders say they have to deal with all kinds of products in Polythene. People want to buy products with Polythene.
A local businessman said that even after 36 years of the creation of the Upazila, there is no specific place to dump the garbage. The government’s environment department or the local administration has yet to take any effective steps to protect the environment of the Upazila.
Golam Sarwar Tushar, Agriculture officer, said, “Polythene is a non-perishable product. If it falls on agricultural land, crop production will disrupt along with soil quality.”
In this regard, Fatema Jannat, Assistant Commissioner (Land), said, “All Dhobaura Upazila markets are under regular monitoring. If banned Polythene finds, action will take through a mobile court.”
