It is our civic responsibility to keep the environment beautiful through proper waste management

In an open workshop titled “Sustainable Technology Innovation in Environmental Waste Management”, Vice-Chancellor of Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST), Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain said, “If we continue to produce waste this way, there will be no place on earth for healthy living in the near future. All places will be covered with waste. It is our civic responsibility to keep the environment beautiful through proper waste management. We need to keep our campus clean by ourselves.”
He said these words in Sheikh Hasina student hall at JUST on today Tuesday afternoon. Documentaries made by various international organizations on what measures the developed countries of the world are taking for waste management were displayed in the workshop.
Advising on the separate management of medical waste and cooking waste, Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossian said, “Due to lack of proper waste management many diseases are affecting the human body.” Now the number of non-communicable diseases including cancer is increasing. Medical wastes are the most hazardous of all the waste. When these wastes are mixed together with the kitchen waste, all the waste is becoming poisoned. Which is very harmful to the environment and the surroundings.
Provost of the hall Dr. Selena Akhter said, we need to manage proper waste management to maintain the balance of the environment. Otherwise, biodiversity would be in a serious threat. Through this workshop, we will select some enthusiastic volunteers who will work closely with us in the university’s waste management.
Highlighting the dangers of using polythene and plastic, one student said, “If something cannot be reused to protect the environment, it has to be refused.” Bangladesh is a developing country. So our ability to refuse
polythene or plastic is not made yet. However, we need to develop advanced technology to reuse them.
The provost of Bir Pratik Taraman Bibi hall Dr. Shirin Nigar, associate professor of environmental science and technology Dr. Maumita Chowdhury and assistant provost of Sheikh Hasina student hall Farhana Yasmin and Pooja Baidya Promukh were present on the workshop.
In addition, about 100 students from different departments of the university were present in the workshop.
