Dr Yunus presented the idea of ’three zeros’ in COP29 opening session
Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel laureate from Bangladesh, and the Chief Advisor of the present Bangladesh Interim Government, emphasized the ‘three zeros’ theory at the Baku COP29 climate conference.
Presenting this theory in his speech at the conference on Wednesday (November 13), he said that this will give birth to a new civilization. A new world will be built, which will be habitable for all.
Muhammad Yunus stated at the World Leaders Climate Action Summit (COP-29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, that it is possible to create a better world. “We all just need to adopt a lifestyle that will make this world safer for everyone,” he added.
Since the August Revolution in Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus has been highlighting the power and need of the youth. He is saying everywhere to have faith and trust in the new generation. This belief his for a long time.
In his speech at the Baku Climate Conference, he expressed his faith in the youth and urged everyone to join him in pursuing his ‘Three Zero’ vision. They love their world.
The Chief Advisor shared his long-held dream of creating a cleaner, more habitable world, noting that he thinks differently than most.
He said, ‘Climate change is getting worse. Our civilization is at grave risk as we continue to destroy our values.
To get rid of this, we need to pool our brains, money and youth to build a new civilization. For that we have to adopt a new style of life, so that a new world is born.
Briefly outlining what this new civilization is, the Chief Advisor said, ‘Our lifestyle is anti-environmental. The arguments we make for that lifestyle are based on economic structures.’
That economic structure has fostered a consumerist lifestyle. The aim is to promote consumerism. More consumption, more growth. The more growth, the more wealth. Reaching the limit of profit seems to be the only vow of today’s life.
A new civilization will develop based on a new culture. Highlighting that counter culture, he said, ‘We have to walk on the path of zero waste or zero wastage. Stopping waste means reducing consumption.’
If excess consumables are not used unless absolutely necessary, waste will be reduced. The new lifestyle will be based on zero carbon, alternative and renewable energy instead of fossil fuels.
He also said that this new way of life or ‘lifestyle’ is necessary for the safety of the environment. That life will not be imposed. You have to like it. The youth community will accept it with joy and love. In this way, everyone in the youth society will develop as ‘Three Zero Person’.
Specifying how the ‘three zero person’ is, the chief adviser said, he will not emit carbon. That means it will be ‘Zero Carbon’. He will not be the sole hoarder of wealth. Its assets will be social business oriented.
This means aiming for ‘zero poverty’ and working towards ‘zero unemployment’. That is, according to Muhammad Yunus, if poverty, unemployment and carbon emissions can be reduced to zero, a new world will be built that is free of worries and livable.
Chief advisor outside the main conference in Baku, Muhammad Yunus on today (November 13) met with representatives of various global organizations related to health and pharmaceutical companies. He discussed with them in favor of organizing the health system of the world.
