‘Cashless Nordics’: World’s first completely paperless country in 2026

Sweden and Norway officially announced that the use of paper currency in their economies had dropped below 0.5 percent. In 2026, the Scandinavian countries have now established themselves as the world’s first completely ‘cashless’ societies.

When money disappears, everyone from beggars to small tea vendors are using digital payments. In this 2026 system, ‘biometric payments’ (scans of the hand or iris) have become the most popular.

The study has shown that as a result, tax evasion and corruption rates have dropped to almost zero. However, there have also been some social crises in 2026 regarding the adaptation of senior citizens.
