Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) has started the production of ‘Sonali Bag’ approximately one lakh pieces daily to reduce the environmental pollution caused by polythene bags.
Sonali Bag is one kind of environment-friendly bag which is made from jute. A project that is funded by the Climate Change Trust Fund.
This was reportedly informed at the seventh meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Textiles and Jute at the Parliament House last Sunday. It is said that an order has already been issued from the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change for the allotment of Taka Nine Core Ninety Six Lac and Eighty-Nine Thousand in this pilot project for the production of such kind of jute bag.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Mirza Azam. There were present Textiles and Jute Minister Mr.Golam Dastagir Gazi, Ranjit Kumar Roy, Md. Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, Shaheen Akhter, Abdul Momin Mondal, Khadijatul Anwar and Tamanna Nusrat (Bubli). In addition, secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, Director General of the Department of Jute and Textiles and other concerned were also present in the meeting.
The parliamentary committee recommended the meeting to take steps to celebrate ‘Textile Day’ for the first time. At the same time, it is recommended to promote the activities of this sector in a broadway.
