World Earth Day- 2021
Since 1970, April 22 is being observed as Earth Day. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.
This time Earth Day is being celebrated at a time when the whole world is devastated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, this day is being celebrated virtually internationally. The World Earth Day Networking Organization has selected the theme for World Earth Day: ‘Restore the Earth,’ which will remain in force for the following year.
One of the highlights of this year’s World Earth Day is that US President Joe Biden has organized a two-day virtual climate summit, inviting 40 heads of states/governments from around the world to participate.
Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina is one of the 40 invited Heads of State and Government. As the current president of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF), an organization of 48 countries at risk of climate change and Climate Vulnerable Group- 20 (V-20), Sheikh Hasina’s participation in this virtual conference was significant.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering have also been invited from Southeast Asia for the virtual conference.
At this critical time in the world, which is politically, economically and socially endangered by the Covid-19 pandemic, the argument “Restore the world” is meaningful and significant.
So how to restore the existence of lives beings to survive on earth planet under these circumstances- some way here bellow discussed:
- Our planet can restore through natural processes and by concentrating on emerging green technologies. It can restore the world’s ecosystems.
- Creating a planet where people will work with nature, not the other way around reduces the heavy-carbon emissions and industrial trends of the past century through natural-based investments. These include land management, forest management and species conservation. We need to avoid carbon-based production and focus on natural processes and emerging green technologies.
- The “Earth Restoration” theme is directly related to the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 is most likely derived from wildlife, spread from human-to-wildlife interactions.
- Climate change, deforestation and other habitat destruction increase human contact with wildlife. Therefore, people have to stay away from the wilds and wild’s lives; the human race has to stop walking in the forest.
- Kathleen Rogers, president of the Earth Day Network, said: “Scientists fears that if we do not take good care of the planet, we are waiting for more destruction for the human race. More and more deadly viruses will threaten the very existence of the human race on this earth.
- Our planet itself is capable of storing large amounts of carbon. However, humans are constantly attacking these carbon sinks. For example, the oceans are warming and resisting climate change, and forests absorb carbon through trees, turning massive carbon dioxide into carbon sources. The Amazon Rain Forest is a prime example. However, people are constantly polluting the sea, destroying, and consuming the forests. So the world needs to be decontaminated, forests need to be protected, and degraded, degraded forests need to be restored.
- Restoring the world also means restoring biodiversity. A UN report released last year found that nature’s degradation was “unprecedented” and that 1 million species were at risk of extinction worldwide. Biodiversity conservation protects endangered and endangered species – it also protects the planet: the habitat of millions of species is in water, land and air.We have to protect the biodiversity of this world and to take up the program of restoring the lost biodiversity.
- Every habitant and every country needs to work together to protect our home called the Earth Planet. There is only one united front against a more significant and more destructive threat, such as climate change or the coronavirus, and that is that the Human Unity Front can protect the planet’s health in the end.
- Sir David King, Professor of Emeritus at the University of Cambridge, said: “The current pandemic has crippled the world economy and caused many deaths. Climate change is an existential threat to our global civilization. Neither of these two challenges is confined to the borders of any country. Notably, Professor Sir David King served as Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK Government under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. Therefore, Not only nationally but we need to think internationally about mitigating climate change. Therefore, the world has no choice but to protect the existence of humankind in this world, to prevent environmental pollution and climate change.
- The announcement of the “Earth Restoration” theme comes in the context of forcing the COVID-19 epidemic to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day online. Millions of people worldwide and countless celebrities, scientists, artists and activists had shown their interest in celebrating the first Digital World Earth Day. This a positive sign of humankind.
- Climate change and other environmental problems have disrupted our natural systems, leading to new and deadly diseases and the collapse of the global economy. However, the damage caused by climate change and the coronavirus painfully reminds us that we need to rebuild our planet and find a way to survive it.
