Rajshahi was once a desert in the Varendra region. But in 2026, the scenario is completely different.
An agricultural revolution has begun under the auspicious banner of the ‘Green Varendra 2026’ project. This includes ‘precision agriculture’ or a combination of precision farming technology and green gardens with an ancient indigenous climate.
Drip irrigation and AI sensors: Farmers in Varendra region no longer irrigate in a haphazard manner. ‘Soil moisture sensors’ have been installed in the area. When the soil’s water supply is automated, trees get water only through irrigation.
About 70% of the water is drawn. After this technology worked well in 2025, by 2026, the whole Varendra area is now filled with mango, malta, and fruit gardens.
Planting trees to stop desert areas from growing: Besides farming, the low tree planting in Varendra has used a new method. Seeds worth crores of rupees have been used in remote areas using drones.
In 2026, the temperature in this area is less than 1.5 degrees Celsius over the average of the last 5 years. The Varendra region is now acting as a political force, which helps keep the ecological balance in North Bengal.
