Residents of the Middle East, one of the world’s most water-stressed regions, are facing severe impacts from the climate crisis. Rain is rare there.

Every year the heatwave continues to rise and drought becomes more severe. This region’s millions are at risk of displacement due to this crisis.

Now the United Nations Climate Conference COP 27 (UNFCCC)is going on in the Middle East country of Egypt, which is facing a climate crisis severally.

Hussein Abu Saddam, Head of Egypt’s farmers’ syndicate, said, “Egypt is one of the driest countries in the world. There is no profit in the country’s agriculture.

The climate crisis is increasing, and new concerns keep coming. New parasites are attacking crops. Due to the climate crisis, many people have started moving from the village to the city, searching for work. They are crowding in different factories.”

Researchers said if this continues, by 2060, Egypt’s agricultural sector will go down another 47 percent.

Amy Pope, Assistant Director of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), said, “In 2021, 3 million people in Africa and the Middle East has displaced by natural disasters caused by the climate crisis. The situation is getting worse.”

According to the World Bank report, 21.6 million people will be internally displaced by 2050 if no action has taken to prevent this disaster. About 200,000 people are from West Africa.

Iraq could lose 20 percent of freshwater if global temperatures rise further and precipitation falls by 10 percent. One-third of agricultural land may deprive of irrigation, making life difficult for the country’s people.

Jordan is one of the driest countries in the world. The country is suffering from a water shortage. In 2021, it had to import twice as much water from Israel.
