On that afternoon, the students participated in this one-hour program in the Shaheed Minar premises of the University in collaboration with Spring Time Camp under the slogan
‘Climate justice is the right of all living beings.’ The participants said this program was organized to show solidarity with the youth of other countries.
They requested quick action on environmental adaptation, resettlement of climate refugees, long-term solutions for fresh water, and the construction of sustainable block dams on the coast.
The program requires world leaders to adhere to the Paris Agreement, reducing global warming by 1.5 degrees and reaching zero carbon emissions.
“Global warming and the industrialization of this modern world have left no sustainable solution to climate change. With the aim of its sustainable development, we students of the University have carried out this program,” said the students.
Participating in the symbolic strike, Ata-e-Rabbi, a student of the English department of the University, said that he was born in the hills. He grew up in a hilly environment. He also highlighted the harmful effects of climate change there.
He continued, saying, “Earlier, fresh water was available in hilly springs. However, due to climate change and indiscriminate felling of trees, the water table in the hills has gone down a lot. Due to this, deep tube wells had to install, but proper water is not available in the mountains.”
