Millions of lives will be saved by taking bold steps to prevent Global warming.

The United Kingdom wants to become a net-zero carbon country as soon as possible to prevent adverse climate change. The United Kingdom set a goal of reducing carbon emissions by 80 percent by 2050 in the Climate Change Act of 2008.

If countries take such bold steps to curb global warming and carbon emissions in compliance with the Paris Climate Agreement, millions of lives could be saved by 2040.

A research article on the subject was recently published in The Lancet Planetary Health Journal. A global warming policy could save the lives of 5.86 million people who die each year from malnutrition. Besides, by 2040, more than 2.3 million lives could be saved by walking in the fresh air.

Inspired by the vow to protect the earth, 195 countries signed an agreement on climate change in December 2015 in the French capital, Paris. In this historic agreement, the world’s nations agreed to keep the average global warming rate below two degrees Celsius or, if possible, one and a half degrees.

On Monday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for bold steps to reduce carbon emissions by 2030, in line with the UN’s COP26 climate conference from 01-12 November 2021 in Glasgow, UK.

The new study highlights the potential benefits of preventing climate change and calls for more ambitious goals.

The study included models from the United States, China, Brazil, Germany, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. These countries are home to more than half of the world’s population and are responsible for 70 percent of global carbon emissions.
